I am trying to use a text box in my report that has
the control source set to '=Left([MyField],4)'. And I get #error. This is in Access 2000. Can I just not use this
function in areport, or is there something I am missing?
The data type of MyField is Text.

Hi!

I'm experiencing a lot of the same. To make it work, MyField mustn't be a field in the recordsource.

Create a textbox and make it's control source "MyField", name the textbox "txtMyField".

In your other textbox, use '=Left(txtMyField,4)' as control source.

That worked exactly. Thanks! Any idea why it works like that? Seems a bit odd.

Thanx for the star!

I must confess, I haven't the foggiest about this behaviour, I've only discovered this is the way (or at least one way) to do it;-)

Perhaps other participants can enlighten us on it.
