I am concerned because whenever I see a code on the 4 digit LED front pannel, it is a problem. I have a B50 and I just upgraded from 4.3.3.11 to 5.2.0.1. If I log into the console and do the "diag" command and immediately exit the LEDs go blank.

What could this mean? Does anyone know? Should I contact IBM?

HI,

c33 == A TTY terminal attached to serial ports S1 or S2 was selected.

Solution :
c33 is configuring the console as a tty. Typcially this occurs because the console is configured as a tty but has no tty. In this situation, when booting into service mode and executing an lscons, the console will show up as an lft. To verify that this is the case, enter smitty chcons. PATHNAME of console will be set to /dev/tty0. Change the pathname to /dev/lft0 and reboot your system.

My console is a TTY - and I don't have access to an LFT to use as the console - I did what you suggested and then I had no console at all. I had to get in from the network and su to root.

in my inittab, I have redirected the output of /dev/console to go to a file like this:
swcons:2:wait:/usr/sbin/swcons /tmp/cons.out > /dev/console 2>&1

this way I can get to the console messages even when I am not at the console - also when I am at the console I don't get all the messages interruping my maintenance activities (some don't have screen refresh and I ended up missing some info)

Furthermore, when I did use chcons to set the console to be /dev/lft0 - then the LED code displayed was 0c32, which is "A directly attached display (HFT) was selected". I don't have an HFT, so there was no console on the server at all. Really great message.

I appreciate your suggestion, but in my case it really isn't a solution (per se).
