Leaving Messages Question

I have an odd question about Leaving Messages on an MLX Display phone. This is not a voice mail question, but a phone message question.

We've had our MLX phones installed for a little over a week now and since yesterday my phone has been receiving messages about 6 times/day. The messages come from 2 extensions (one of which is mine).

The most likely case is that someone is screwing with me especially since it happens when I leave my desk, but this system is so new to us that I don't believe anybody knows how to leave messages.

Is it possible that my phone has an issue that is causing it to receive messages?

What happens when you press MENU > MESSAGES > and find out where it's coming from and CALL THEM BACK and ask them?

Is your system set up so that you dial 9 for outside calls?

If so, does one of your local prefixes start with 53X?

It is possible that someone making a local call is missing the "9" and hitting the "#" instead, then dials 53 and the digits of your extension.

From the manual:
To use the Leave Message feature without calling a user, the multiline telephone user presses the Feature button (without lifting the handset) and then dials 53 and the person’s extension number.
Pressing the "#" while off hook on a SA button is the same as pressing "Feature"
