Hey peeps,
I have an old server running LS 4.01 (with superpatch) and have a quick question. In the Lotus install specs it has Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 as the recommended browser.

I have had this browser on my server for a while now but I am concerned that it may be a security risk. Am I able to upgrade the version of the browser on the server to version 5.5 Service Pack 2 without 'breaking' learningspace??

Hi Ommah,

In looking at the technotes for Lotus, I think that you will be ok upgrading. There wasnt really a browser requirements per say for the server, but the client end requirements said

Web browser software:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 or later, 5.0 or later (with Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, Version 5.00.3177 or greater)

So you have to upgrade your version of VM on the server first if need be. Other than that, I would think that it is ok to upgrade this. Of course with Lotus, you never know.

Good luck.
Scott

Heya Scott,
Cheers for the reply, its hard to get answers to questions on the subject of learningspace!

The reason im wondering about the browser on the server side is because I was assuming that lotus recommended browser "IE 4.01 SP2" because it installed MDAC 2.1 SP2

If you upgrade the browser to IE 5.5 SP2 then you will be upgrading the mdac (not sure which version ships with IE 5.5 SP2) which might in turn cause learningspace to "wigg" out. Rolling back mdacs is a pain in the backside so I am a bit hesitant to upgrade. Ive tried it on a test machine but have no idea what effects it could have in a live environment.
