I'm a very techy person, but don't know what to do at all with the Meridian 1 Option 11e that was donated to our organization. Here is what I have.

1-NTAK11BB Cabinet
1-NTBK45AC System Core Pack 1
1-NTBK84RE General Business Rls 21.23
1-NTAK04AB AC/CD Power Supply
1-1250 Console

What do I need to add to get this baby going?
How do I hook up my analog CO lines?
What do I need to buy to add analog and digital sets to the system?
How do I program the system?

Okay, next big question :) Can the Meridian 1 do off-premise call transfers? IE a speed dial or extension number that actually dials another phone number and either conferences the call or uses Centrex transfer to complete it.

Thanks so much for your help. I'm thinking we received a nice gift for our organization, but maybe that's not the case :/

Newbieorama,

Wow, where to begin. Yes, it will do off-presmise transfer controllable via software. You'll need digital line cards, analog line cards, DTI/PRI cards, just to name a few. Also, insure that Nortel recognizes the system's serial number and that you have all the software medium copies (usually 3) available. Did you get the technical manuals as well? They contain detailed engineering, installation, provisioning, administrative and enviromental information you will need and that's just the beginning. Find a local vendor certified in Meridian products to assist in the event this board cannot provide the complete answers you need, but we will certainly try. Good luck.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY THIS WEBSITE. NORTEL@INTEGRATEDTECHNOLOGY.COM THEY CAN BE VERY HELPFUL IN NEW INSTALLATIONS

I agree with moose4me - Find a local Nortel Vendor. They can get your switch registerd with Nortel (they will not help if you have a problem and are not registered - you have to think how important are your phones and could you aford for them to be down long)

You will also want to upgrade - Rls 21 is at least 5 years old and the new sets have some great features. Nortel's Meridian phone system is not real technical friendly - no menus to stumble through. It will pay in the long run to get it in right and up to specs

How many phones do you have in your office? It may not be the best for you, but many companies have found that they can reduce the number of Telephone Company Lines and save enough money over a 5 year period or so to pay for the phone system. But if those cards are all you have then, in order to get this thing running there will be some money involved. You can get a vendor to quote the startup cost and then make your decision from there. The vendor is anxious to make the sale so be sure to ask them to help you with the cost analysis. They'll do all this for free. This should help you justify the expenses (or not).
