Hello all,
My company has a new project they are looking into and someone mentioned that Citrix may be heavily involved..

I have heard of Citrix.. lol but have never worked with it at all. I was on their website and all the different apps they have is a little overwhelming...

What would be the best/fastes/cheapest way to gain some good fundamentals, basic knowledge, and administration procedures of the different products?

Thanks everyone.

For the products you want to use (apps indeed!) I would be downloading the administration guides for each.

Given that Citrix covers quite a diverse range of solution and strategic products, I would be trying to determine exactly what it was you were trying to achieve. Then trying to find the correct product/s to match that expectation.

Thanks Scott, I didn't see the admin guides the first time I started poking around...
however I have since d/l a few of them and am starting to d/l some of the demo's.. (unfortunately some are huge apps..lol)
Hopefully I can create a lab to play around on next week...
Then I am sure I will have a ton of questions...

Have a great weekend.

Citrix has tons of products. A good place to start would be learning Presentation Server 4.5. This is really their core product. A general overview of how you'd install it...

1. Start by installing a Windows Server (64 Bit if possible, but 32 Bit is fine)

2. Put this Windows server into Terminal Server mode

3. Install Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 software onto this Terminal Server

4. Install some applications onto the server

5. Install the Citrix ICA client software on a client PC

6. Create an ICA connection from the client PC to your Windows Server

have fun!

As Dublin says if you have a spare machine around then create a test lab to play with Presentation Server.

I agree the manuals are quite duanting, but to be honest at least 50% is idiot guide.

The most important thing with most Citrix products is, remember what you are trying to achieve. Mostly you can keep it very simple.

Once you have had a play and a read, you will be more than welcome to ask questions. Ask away now in fact, all you need is a bit of enthusiasm.
