learn about colors

i want to build a web site but i don't know which colours i should use.
are there any web sites that i can learn about colors(for web sites)

its pretty common sense really -- you dont want your colors contrasting to much or else you could get rather gaudy -- but complementary colors are good

But when it all boils down, the use of colour is up to you as the web designer. There's really no &quot;right&quot; colour scheme. There are lots and lots of &quot;wrong&quot; ones, but the colour scheme you choose for your site should be harmonious with your content and your audiences expectations.

My high school is using a page with RED as a background with white letters (school colors).

Its so much red, it affects me physically. I can only look at the page for a minute two before my head starts to literally swim.

How about finding a site you like and looking at their color scheme...

Sticking to these 216 colors helps ensure a consistent look on whatever platform the viewer is on (PC or Mac).

Actually the 216 web colors is old technology, and every web browser, whether Mac or PC will handle colors as properly as they can. It is safe to go up to 256 colors now The main reason for the differences in Mac and PC dispay of images is the difference the way the 2 systems handle gamma.
