I'm having a problem with the leading on the last line of a paragraph or the last item in a bulletted list.

The last line sometimes has a greater leading above it than the other lines in the paragraph or list. I've tried everything I know to fix this.

It doesn't happen all the time. I'm using 6.5

Can anyone help me here?

Thank you

Peter

Hi ozsailor,

Probably this will help

Go to the last line, put your cursor behind the last letter and hit the return key. Normally the leading would be the same now in whole your bullet list

Hope this solves it

Carlow,

Thanks for your response, but I have tried that and it doesn't solve the problem.

I've also tried reformatting the whole paragraph or list, but still no joy.

Hi, ozsailor,

From AdobeForums Pm Win FAQs:
Last line of paragraph has extra leading

"One possible cause is that there is a space after the last visible character that has a higher leading setting than the rest of your paragraph.

The solution is to simply select the entire paragraph - the best way to ensure you have the whole thing is to triple-click in the paragraph with the text tool - and reenter the desired leading setting in the control palette.

If you are using AutoLeading and don't want to manually set your leading, you'll need to eliminate that "rogue" space. Go to the end of the last word with the text cursor and press the delete key, then hit return. That last line should pop up where it belongs.

The extra leading can also appear if the next line below the last line of your paragraph has a higher leading setting. Often you won't even realize there's a line there because there is no more type. Click into your paragraph with the text tool and use your arrow keys to move to the bottom of the paragraph, then continue with the down arrow as far into empty space as it will go. Then use the backspace key to erase the empty lines until the cursor is back up on the last line of your visible paragraph, which should now appear properly leaded.

Another possible cause is that Align To Grid is checked, which can create line spacing problems. Double check that this is unchecked."

John,

Thank you, you've solved half my problem.

When I placed the cursor after the last letter of the last line of the bulletted list and pressed delete several times, the last line popped back into place.

However, with the paragraph problem, I can place the cursor after the last letter of the last line and press delete. This eliminates the paragraph (i.e. the next paragraph moves up and starts on the same line) and also fixes the leading of the last line in the previous paragraph.

However when I press enter to make the paragraph again, the leading problem reappears.

I've tried reformatting and checking the leading of the paragraph below. Also checked the snap to grid.

I'm stumped at this point. Any other good ideas?

Thanks

Peter

Hi, ozsailor,

> However when I press enter to make the paragraph again, the leading problem reappears.

Is there a problem leaving the final line with no return if the lines are then all evenly leaded?

John,

I need to press return to make the next paragraph don't I?

Is there another way to do it?

Thanks for your help

Peter

Hi, ozsailor,

I was assuming it was the last line of your text block.
Is there more text?

Have you checked your paragraph settings -
Paragraph Space: Before/After? and so on?

John,

Yes there is more text. I've checked the paragraph settings too.

This doesn't happen every time. I've deleted and retyped the paragraph with the same result.

However, if I copy the whole paragraph into another text box, the leading is OK.

Beats me
