LDAP Reference guides/books/good starting point 1

Hi.
Does anyone have any idea where I could find out more about LDAP? A good recommended book for the LDAP newbie? I've looked at WIn2000 and there's no information in any references about LDAP in any detail.

What do I want to do? Implement security under Red Hat from a Windows 2000 server - I'm fully clued up on Win2000 and Unix/Linux but LDAP seems to be a 'black art' where theres very little practical information to look at.

Any assistance in finding something worth reading would be greatly appreciated
