LDAP integration for SMF 1.1.2 on OSX Server 10.4.9

I am trying to get our SMF 1.1.2 install to use the LDAP directory of our email system(Communigate Pro 5.1.7) for integration. I have searched through the forums already and tried the various modifications to the LogInOut.php script to no avail so far.

Has anyone got this version of SMF to use LDAP authentication from a Communigate LDAP Directory? Or can anybody maybe give me some pointers please on alternative methods of achiving our goal of using the existing LDAP for authentication for the SMF forums
