I have a HUGE question to ask you techies. I work for a large DoD agency. We have several data centers with many different OEM hardware vendors. Our security folks are changing our security posture with management ports. These being HP - ILO2 and MP (management processor) console ports and Sun - ALOM ports. Security is wanting to get away from authenication at the console port and looking at an LDAP solution to authenicate through the LDAP. Speaking to HP they say it may work, Sun says it will not work. My question is: has anyone used an LDAP server for this type of authenication? If so, does it work without needing some type of plug-in? Any other details you can provide will be very helpful.
