if i have a remote site how can I tell what area codes are local and what are toll and what are long distance within their state? for example, I am in 212 (NYC). Area code 718 (NYC) is a local call. area code 914 (NY) is a regional toll call. And anything far upstate (buffalo, for example) is a long distance call. How can i determine this information for other states so I can correctly program their BARS? thank you.

What you need to get is a copy of the WHITE page phone book for those areas that you need the CALLING AREA information. Usually this data is in the front sections of the book. Some phone companies are very good about providing the Rate Area / Rater Center info so you can build your LCR tables. Others give you next to nothing. You can check your public library, they may have some of the books you are looking for. There may also be some companies that publish this data, that show Rate Areas and what is local or zone calls and list all the office codes. As far as phone books, be sure they are "Telco phone books" the other people that publish these 'neighborhood' books don't have the info on calling areas or very little that I have found usefull!

I know this can be very tedious. I used to take care of 3 M1s and we had extensive tables of FCIs to deal with, with all the NPAs and NXXs in southern California. It could be a real challenge at times!

Hope this helps!
