Hi, I have a Lazerjet 8150dn. I installed the latest PS driver from HPs site. In Excel when I print a document with gray text it is automatically converted to black. This does not happen under other applications like Word where the grayscales are printed correctly. If I install a PCL driver everything works. I would like to avoid installing the PCL driver. Any insights?? Thank you

Simon

Do you mean the grey text appears as solid black when you print ?
What happens if you copy some of the tables from Excell into Word if possible and print a sample page from there ?
If you are using a special font that is not recognized by the printer you might need to make some changes in the PS driver :
Open properties -> Advanced -> Printing defaults -> Advanced -> Graphics -> TrueType Font = Download as soft font.
Below these settings under Document optios check the PostScript Alternate settings and try and select a different TrueType alternate.

Lastly check the Device Settings tab and review the table for font substitues and adjust if needed.

Thanks for the reply, The text does appear black no matter the tone of gray I use. I tried all of the things mentionned above without success... I copied the cell from Excel to Word and the text appears gray. Any other possible solutions?? Thank you!

I tested some more here... And saw the same thing.
Grey text appeared as being printed all black even when choosing Print Preview.

In the driver settings under Excell I went to the Advanced tab -> Document Options -> PostScript Alternates and set Alternate for PostScript printing to Optimize for portability.

Running a print preview of the sample Excell sheet I created showed the text a being printed correctly in gray scale now.

Please check if thís works for you as well.

Have a nice weekend :)

Nice shot there, wiz!

hpwizzard thanks a lot. That did the trick. Do you have any idea why this option would influence the tone of gray??
