Layers, CSS and browser crash

The problem: I have some layers with overflow=auto, so they show the scrollbars.
I use CSS to modify the scrollbars.
When I work with these layers (drag and drop, hide, show ...) my browser crashes.
If i don't use CSS style for the scrollbars all works fine.
Does anybody know this problem?
Any solution?

Sounds like your browser doesn't like you to change the scroll bars. There's always a better way...

Most browsers aren't ready for scroll bar stunts yet.
