Dear All,

I have a scenario where I need to launch a PDF from a web browser. I have tried many means, but every time it has launched the PDF within the browser. I need it to launch externally of Internet Explorer as that way I can fully facilitate the search function for the .pdx file.

Although it is coming from a web page, it is all going to run off a CD, so there is no worry that it will try using a web server with the .pdx file. there is also no security risk of launching files, as it will all run from a CD.

Has anyone got any ideas on how this objective can be achieved?

Thanks to anyone who can help

This is most likely out of your control. The PDF opens into the web browser because the web browser has a PDF plugin installed. Supposing you were able to disable this plugin (by deleting files or registry hacking), you cannot guarantee how the user's computer will handle the PDF file. The user may receive a prompt to download or open the PDF file directly.

You may want to consider using the PDF file as your primary navigation (instead of a web page). When the CD is inserted, you could have the PDF file automatically open. One link in the PDF file could go to other PDF documents and another link could open the HTML pages.

Thanks for the reponse Jimoblak, this question was from a collegue who I has since left, but I do know he used something similar to what you have mentioned.

thanks again

Chris
