Hi
When I launch a .PDF, .XLS, .DOC from an attachment in a Notes document I get the appropriate applications smart icons/features E.G. Save, Zoom, Find, Print etc. However, when I launch a .PPT I get presented with a slide show and no icons/features associated with PowerPoint. I'd appreciate your input on this issue please.
Many thanks for your time
Dean

It is perfectly normal that you see no PowerPoint icons, since a PPT is an "executable" PowerPoint file. In other words, you're not using PowerPoint to view the file, only to execute the presentation.
If you want to view the PPT file with the icons, you need to detach the file to disk, open PowerPoint and use File/Open in PowerPoint to view the file outside of the slideshow.

Hi
Thanks for responding.
I thought that a *.PPS was the executable slide show. Is there no difference in what I'm trying to acheive then between a *.PPT and a *.PPS?
Thanks
Dean

I could have sworn I included in my original post that this functionality is taking place through IE. Oh well I've said it now.

Interesting point. What is the difference between a PPT and a PPS ?
Well, I had a go with PowerPoint and created a new, blank presentation with one slide. Saved it PPT format (noticing that PPS - or PowerPoint Show format, existed also - so count me wrong on that one).
When double-clicking on it, PowerPoint opens and I get the regular edit window, icons and all.
Then I attached the file to a memo and sent it to myself. And, lo and behold, the IE double-click launches the presentation automatically, with the SAME FILE.

So, there you have it. A PPT file is not normally slideshow mode, but IE makes it so. Is this a "feature", or a "bug" ? Who asked for it anyway ? What use is PPS anymore ?

Ah, questions, questions . . .

Pascal.
