I am creating a CD with some 40 Word *.DOT templates on it so that students can complete various assignments at home. I want the Word template to open as a new untitled document. The users are generally not very computer savvy so it has to work with minimum instruction, preferably automatically.

The format is a simple HTML website which self-opens when the CD is placed in drive. There are several pages with links to and brief descriptions of the various documents.

This works as expected in Firefox, with the Word templates opening as untitled new pages in Word. No problem there.

But is a completely different matter with Internet Explorer 6 and 7. By default, the Word files open as the originals within IE. I wrote a javascript routine which forced Word to launch, but the scirpt seems to inhibit FF.

I haven't been successful in creating the relative path for the Word template for the script, so while Word launches, no file opens. I have got the file to open by using an exact path, but it is the original template which appears, not untitled Document1.

Am I on the right track, persisting and possibly writing different pages for FF and IE, or should I have a total rethink?

Many thanks.

Oh, and as usual, there's a deadline looming up! [smile]
