I am creating a small vb6 viewer/catalogue app that lists MS Word docs. When you click on a file, the file will open into MS Word or MS Word Viewer (I haven't decided which to use - but would prefer to use MS Word). I don't want users to alter the docs, so is there any way to have Word open but in a write-protected mode ONLY for my app??

(I would use Word Viewer, but on machines with Word, Viewer allows you to go into Word to edit)

Thankx

You could set the read-only bit on the file before you open it. But then you would have to reset it if you needed to after the application terminated. You could only do this if you knew when the viewer terminated. There's code out there to do this if you decide to take this approach. Snaggs
