latitude D505 shutsdown rather than restart

I have a delol latitude d505 running winxp pro. When I do a restart, the computer shuts down. There have been times I have had to wait for 15 minutes before it would start again. I set the power settings to always on.

Sounds like an overheating problem or power switch problem....are all updates in place?
