If I'm drawing a paintbrush stroke it stays selected. If I try to draw another paintbrush stroke near the previously drawn one it alters the previous one instead of drawing a new stroke.

I know there is a shortcut key to deselect the stroke, but I find it really anoying to draw a line and then having to press a key to deselect it before I can draw the next line.

Is there an option in Illustrator which automatically deselects the paintbrush stroke after drawing? I couldn't find it anywhere, but I might not have been looking in the right place.

Thanks for any helpfull tips!

Double-click the paintbrush tool to bring up its options. Turn off "Keep Selected" and that should do it.

Can't beleive I didn't think of double clicking. I knew I'd seen the menu before at some point. Cheers for your answer Blueark
