Can anyone help me to understand what goes on with the apple mac print drivers,

I am trying to connect to a networked HP 4 Laserjet, I have selected the Laserwriter 8 icon from the chooser and enabled appletalk and am then able to "see" the networked printers (HP4 and HP1600ct) I select the HP4and then I get asked to choose a PPD? how do I know which one to choose?

If I select the standard one, it seems to work but I occaisonally get postscript errors...

Can anyone give me a little insight as to what this is all about or point me to a relevant webpage,

Thanks for your help

Graham

In you System folder\Extensions\Printer Discriptions\ you will find all the PPD files that the system has installed. You need the correct PPD for the printer.

You my still get PS errors however this is due to a number of things. If you are using Quark then you could be looking at corrupt clipping paths, corrupt picture box. Any number of things. This can also be down to the PS Level that is running on the printer.

You should have a look at for the correct PPD. If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

Thanks

But I would have thought that the PPD's would be obvious for well known printers such as HP4 ?

Ok, I know what I am doing now - I did not have the HP PPD files installed.
