Hi

We have a laserjet 4000 that has a reasonably new fuser.

Only when duplexing the toner does not fuse up to about an inch in from the left edge. THe rest of the print is perfect

It will often print one side of the duplex perfectly and the other will not fuse.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks B

That is an odd one. Is the print partially fused, or completely unfused? One thing I might suggest is to go through the menu on the printer itself and increase the heat applied to the fuser roller. I do not have access to the service manual that tells how to do it, but if you're interested, I can get the information on Monday when I return to work.

Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike

It is partially fused, but looks 'dusty'.

The info on how to increase the heat would be great.

Thanks B

Well the more I think of it I don't know if this will work, but considering it works 100% with single sided documents, it's worth a shot. The main menu item is Paper Handling, then go down the menu until you see Configure Fuser Mode. It should say No, select Yes. On the next menu you should see "normal" as the setting. If it's low, then that's a problem probably. Otherwise you can set it to High or to normal if it was actually set on Low.

I am referring to the image formation troubleshooting section of the book and the table "loose toner". The order of steps are:

Possible cause Action

Contamination 1. Print a few more pages to see if the in the printer problem corrects itself.
2. Clean the inside of the printer
or use the printer's cleaning page.

Toner cartridge Replace the toner cartridge.

Paper might be Check the paper type and quality.
too smooth.

Wrong Fuser setting From the Paper Handling Menu on the
for paper type. Control Panel, change the Fuser Mode
setting or choose another paper type
from the printer driver.

Defective Fuser Replace the fuser.

Good luck,
Mike

The fuser i worn out from the left (seen on the left on the paper) in 4000 and 4050. The film that fuses the toner is not brown any more - more like yellow if you look at the fuser. You can find it on the rear of the printer. Open the rear door and take it away. Bending with a screwdriver. Take the fuser out and than you could see the fuser film.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the help - the fuser was warn out.

Turns out the guy who said he replaced the Fuser receintly actually did not.

Many thanks for all of your help

Thanks B

I take it that you're switching your repair vendor? :)
