Ok. here's the strangest printing problem I've ever seen. We are a small charter high school - about 30 computers. One classroom has 6 computers that print to a LaserJet 2300L with a JetDirect 680n network card. About 2 weeks ago, it started printing multiple copies of documents, and would not stop until print job was canceled from originating printer. I called HP, after 45 minutes of troubshooting, they decided it was a bad formatter, and sent me a new printer. It still does the same thing. I have Cold reset the printer w/ the card in, and reconfigured the printer. I have uninstalled printer and drivers on the computer, and it still does it. I have however just discovered that I get the "document failed to print" error first, then the document prints anyway, over and over and over again. I am using the HP PCL5e drivers - all computers are windows XP Pro. Oh, and I installed another laserjet 2300L on the machine and it did the same thing - so it's somewhere on the computer side, not the prnter. But the weirdest thing is that it's doing it on more than one computer. Any suggestions?? This is driving me absolutely crazy, I hope someone can help.

So, it's saying "Document failed to print"... which means for some reason, the acknowledgment of the print job isn't coming through... so... the print spooler, not seeing the acknowledgement from the print job, is re-sending the job.

So, hmmm... here's some things I'd try:
1) turn down the speed on the network card, if it's at 100, turn it down to 10. I know it sounds stupid, but sometimes at the higher speeds, with flourescent lights and so forth, information gets "lost"
2) Reinstall the print drivers; if you're sharing the printer from, say, an NT/2000 server, reinstall the drivers there as well.
3) try a compatible version of the printer drivers... say, an HP II+ driver... see if that resolves it.

Just a couple of things to try... let us know what you find. It certainly is an odd problem.

Just my $0.02

I've had docs continuously print because someone had changed the setting on the printer from A4 Paper size to Letterhead. Just kept on trying to print the job.
