Recently, I installed an HP LasaerJet 2300 in one of the offices I maintain, and the printer is working wonderfully, except the users (Windows 2000) cannot resize pages when printing. To resize the page, they are going to the Effects tab and then changing the % of Normal Size option.

All of the users are using the PCL5e driver.

The printer is running firmware version 20031124 4.048.0, and has 48 MB of RAM as well as a duplexer.

The printer is connected to a FreeBSD/SAMBA server. The server is not set to provide any filtering of any type to the printer (i.e. the job should spool and then print as spooled).

Any suggestions as to what I should check would be greatly appreciated.

If any additional information is needed, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

In the Win 2000 PCL driver I have here (V. 60.5.46.1) there is a scale to fit option available when printing. Have you updated to the latest driver on the Win 2000 clients ? (V. 60.5.30.01) Another thing cold be to try a PCL 6 driver. Alternately a betadriver can be checked at

I have updated to the latest PostScript driver as well as the PCL 5e and 6 drivers with the same results.

To make sure the problem did not lie with the server I have tried having the clients print directly to the printer and achieve the same results.

The version of all the drivers I am using is 60.5.30.1. In looking at hpwizzard's post, it looks like a newer driver is available than what is listed on HP's web site. Where should I look to obtain this version of the driver?

I agree this is most likely a driver issue. Has anyone else experienced the same problem, and if so, what version of the drivers fixed the problem?

Thanks for all your help.
