I already own a USB printer and I bought a Laserjet 1300 which works fine when connected to the parallel port, but is useless via USB (the driver installation process always fails at the point where the computer tries to identify the new device).
Telephone support from HP failed to diagnose the problem.
The printer works in USB mode with other computers, suggesting a compatibility issue -- but what sort? I run a Win 2000 SP4 system with a 875P mainboard (Asus P800C Deluxe). HP casually suggested a possible incompatibility with the chipset. Has anybody touched upon this?
