I have approximately 40 laser printer on my network. As a result I go through a number of toner cartridges. What can I do with the empty toner cartridges? Some are name brand like HP, or Lexmark others are generic. I know it's not really good to refill the toner cartridges because it is good the have the photodrum replaced. Does anyone know of any recycling programs out their for empty toner cartridges?

Many schools are now grade schools are collecting them. The school I give our to get $5.00 per cartridge from a recycler. Check with your employees, I'm sure some school is collecting them.

Your local Staples store will have a drop box. Sometimes they have promotions related to cartridge recycling - money to local schools, credit toward new cartridge, etc.

We have a local refiller who takes the empties, and gives us a heck of a deal ($99 for a 4000-series cartridge, $79 for a 2100-series cartridge)... he not only refills them, but gives us a guarantee. If we get a bad cart from him, he replaces it with TWO for free.

Just my $0.02

I hate recycled Toners. I've seen more failures, and more problems caused by bad remaned cartridges.

I am an Authorized HP Printer Tech, and go on many services calls during the day. It's nice that some offer a guarantee on their cartridges, but I don't know how many times I've been on service calls for bad print quality, only to verify a bad cartridge.

With the LJ 4000 as an example, the local "refiller" sells them at $99.00. We sell the extended (X) Genuine HP Toner for $125.00, so you're saving $26.00 by getting a refill. But I charge my customers $95.00 per hour (1 hour min for onsite calls) to tell them they have a bad cartridge.

On a side note, I have an accounting firm that used to use the remanned cartridges. They soon realized that they were not getting the print yield from them, and they were replacing them more often, so they were actually spending more money. They soon realized that by buying Genuine HP, they were able to actually cut thier costs.

Because I work on printers all day long, I see the failure rate of both HP and remanned cartridges. I'm not saying the HP cartridges don't fail, but the failure rate is far less than those of the remanned.

And as a personal statement. I've owned a few HP Laser Printers, and would never use a remanned cartidge. I buy the Genuine HP toners because I know they are more reliable than the remanned, because I see it every day.
