Networker Server Solaris 7 Legato 5.5.5
Client NT 4.0 Legato 5.5.2

Client has 2 large >200GB partitions, f:\ got through 145 reiterations before saying:
save failed for f:\a14data will retry 2 more times.
using F:\A14DATA for f:\a14data
Then it restarts at reiteration <1>

This happened on both partitions, at different times, and when they were almost done. This caused the backups to run double what they normally do. The only common factor is the case sensitivity of the savesets, however, everything worked fine until this weekend. There are no corresponding errors in /var/adm/messages and no events in event viewer on the client.

I have the same problem on Networker 6.2 on a WIN2K server with much smaller backups. Most of mine are in the 15-30GB range. They will get close to the end and then start all over. Wish I could help you out...hopoefully someone else can... )

Is it a full or incremental backup?
If full, you are probably getting a timeout error or files are in use of the filesystem.
If incremental, the time between files is taking longer than your inactivity timeout, so up it.

You may want to try putting a later version of the client on, in case there are any fixes.

ive seen this a few times at different sites.

One thing to look at, is to possibly try using a new nic, as a faulty nic has been known to cause problems on large savesets.
Also, you should try attaching a tape device locally, setting up as remote storage node and then try and backup the data locally. This will prove the network to be either be at fault or fine.

At least from this stage, you should be able to progress
