situation:

An application has been developed which initially revolved around a PC tier (PCbased) access. They are now finding the size of the database (grown to 758Mb and 1.2Gb by next month) an impediment. Brigt idea: to move to middle tier using our Novell 5.0 file servers which currently house small (under 50mbs) msaccess apps and file and print services for around 250 users.

query:

Has anyone had experience or reports regarding this. I have no issues with the positives or the lack of. My concerns are the egatives which aren't clear cut. Can anyone shed some light. ========================================

My company runs many MS Access databases off our NetWare 5.1 servers (used to be NetWare 4.11 before) and they run ok as long as file caching is turned off (SET CLIENT FILE CACHING ENABLED = OFF).

The Majority of users actually access these databases over the WAN due to multiple people at multiple locations needing access to these databases. Performance is still acceptable though. Note: users run MS Access off the NetWare servers also but not over the WAN, off the local server. -----------------------------------------------------
