Large Momentary Spike???!?!

Hello,

In the APC software we use to control our UPS, the error "Large Momentary Spike" orccurs.
I've no idea what this means. Could it be something to do with the battery inside the UPS?

Has anyone an idea?

This is telling you that the AC power input to your UPS has experienced a sudden voltage rise and fall (a spike). The APC UPS contains surge suppression that is designed to protect your electronics from being damaged by these spikes. The APC software is alerting you that your power line is subjecting your equipment to voltage spikes. Any unprotected equipment (things not surge protected) may be damaged. You may want to check if there are any large loads on the same circuit that are switching on and off to create the spikes. Or you may find that the power provider is having regulation problems.

Make sure you have all of your sensitive electronics protected from those spikes!

Spikes like this can be caused by almost any equipment with a motor - domestic/cleaning like Refigerator or Freezer, Vacuum Cleaner, Rug Shampoower, floor buffer, or business-related like Air conditioner, Compressor, Arc Welder, or building-related like Escalators/Elevators (lost a BUNCH of equipment one time when an Escalator motor controller went out - copiers, PCs, adding machines, etc!)
You might consider having an electrician check out the situation if it doesn't become obvious as you look around.
