how do i manage my input and output folders? right now they are HUGE and im running out of space on my OS drive.

if i look in the objects in the CMC i see some reports have counts of over 5,000. what would happen if i delete those objects?

i need some way to manage this, please help.

I'm not sure if it is the same in CE-9, but in CE-10 there is a LIMITS tab on the Object HISTORY in the CMC that lets you set a maximum number of retained Instances per Report Object.

Eg. If the limit is 10 and you run a report, the oldest will be dropped.

That will help keep you Instances under control by auto-deleting older instances off the FRS server.

yes the setting is the same for CE9. when i open "Manage Objects" i see the reports that have the huge number of instances listed. the N value i have is 10 but it is keeping more than that.

how safe is it to start whacking folders in the output folder? The output folder on my system is 3gb....

the N value i have is 10 but it is keeping more than that."

That doesn't make sense, unless you have some other issue.

Is the box checked next to the "Delete excess instances" on the LIMITS tab on the Object HISTORY in the CMC...?

Are there any other LIMITS settings for users/groups on that page that are in conflict with the 10 instances you have set at the top?

Have you applied any CE or CR 9 patches to that server, that you did not do a physical reboot after...?

"how safe is it to start whacking folders in the output folder?"

Not very safe - your even if you remove them from the folder, the CMS database will still have a record of them and show them in the Instance History. You will then get "Object Not Found" errors if those Instance links are clicked in CE-9.

If the Instance LIMIT function doesn't work you safest method is to delete the Instances from CMC or ePortfolio. You can do this manually, or use a third-party tool like APOS InstanceManager 9.

APOS InstanceManager 9 hummmm do you use this?

We use APOS InstanceManager XI (R2) - but used the 10 version before we migrated our BOE infrastructure.

wow APOS InstanceManager 9 pricing is expensive. 4200 for each processor (we have two procs) and 4200 for server license? it will be a hard sell to my boss to spend 10K+ on this software.

If i wanted to ( I dont) do this manually how would i go about it?
