Large images/pictures/jpgs fail to display, but no error msg occurs

I have a photo album program written in VB6 which works great when the image e.g., jpg, jpeg, is less than about 1 MB in size. This was fine when small megapixel resolution was popular, but now with 5 megapixels and up, the jpg file sizes exceed 1 MB and these larger jpg, jpeg files simply do not display. The screen is left blank, yet no error messages are generated. I would like to be able to display the larger jpg files/images, without having to decrease resolution. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
