I am trying to capture an hour or so of video and compress it to fit on a CD. My computer is a 1 GHz, 512 MB RAM, W2K with 200 GB of hard disk. AFter capturing an hour video using Premier 5 or 6 and DV500, the file is 17 GB. At that point the file becomes unusable. I cannot play it in Premier or Windows Media. I cannot even delete it in Windows. I have to go to the command prompt to delete the file.
Right now, my goal is to keep the file in small segments (less than 2 GB), like what I used to get with my Win 98, Premiere 5.1 system. I have tried using the AVI 1.0 setting in Premier but that doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

if you just want to compress it to put on a CD, download the DivX codec (free) and that should allow you to fit about 40 min. You just compress the video to AVI using this codec. I think the DivX player is also free, but the DivX-compressed videos I've seen look fine on Windows Media Player too.
