Dell d610:

The computer is docked and only battery power is detected. This can happen is the power adapter is missing, the power cord is unplugged or the computer is not properly connected to the docking station.
You should undock, redock, attach a power adapter or plug in the power cord.
Strike F1 to shutdown.

Get this randomly, can occur after restart, hibernate, docking/undocking, turned off overnite, plugged in/not plugged in. Can happen any way any time. Replaced batteries, and dock station, different power supply.

XP, all recent win updates, latest bios. Been happening for about 2 months. Any ideas?

The only thing left is the multipin connector on the laptop itself, or its internal wiring. Inspect the connector closely, looking for any foreign material or corrosion. I had a Dell Inspiron that went bad in this way only to find a crystal of silica gel inside the connector.

If you've done all of the above you've probably done this too, but thought I'd put it out there. You can try cleaning the port with a Q-tip and contact cleaner if it looks dirty.

ah it gets better. So Ive had the lappie running thru hoops(hibernating, dock/undocking, how/cold/warm undock/dock, ETC.)Tried a million different combos.

Now I am also getting "Your power adapter does not supply enough power to run the attachéd docking station. Either undock or insert an appropriate adapter.
Strike F1 key to shutdown."
Also stranger still, I hit F1, it shuts down, reboot get same error. But if I do a ctrl-alt-del to hard reboot instead of F1, it boots to windows.

This would be fine if only it was on the docking station..oh well..guess its time to call Dell. Or maybe the image is screwy...hmm maybe I should reimage.

ah its a dell.... what model laptop do you have and what model power supply? I used to have a d400, the supply that came with the laptop would power the laptop fine, but put it in a docking station with the same power supply and it wouldnt. you need a more powerful psu for a docking station and laptop. i had the same thing with my dell c400 as well.
