Hi
Can anyone explain what's happened please.
Started my laptop this morning and across the screen it said:
Defragmenting
Defragmenting
Defragmenting

So I closed it, opened it again and now it just shows a flashing line (Like a cursor)top left hand corner and the background is dark grey?
Last night my laptop was fine, but I did open an attachment from my works company, I opened it, read it, then shut my laptop down for the night, when I tried to start it up this morning, the above is what happened and I've been unable to get it to start up since!

Does this mean I've been hit by a virus and which one is it likely to be and how can I remedy this?

Thanks in advance.
Eve

While it may be possible that it was hit by a virus, it may also be possible that your laptop was set up to defrag when the fragmentation level hit a certain percentage. If you stopped the laptop while it was defragmenting, the OS may not have been able to find the boot sectors correctly.

Insert your recovery disk or original OS disk and see if you can do a repair. You may be able to get it up running long enough to retrieve the data.

Failing that your options may be to use Helix, BartPE, or Dr. Web LiveCD.
