How to fix or stop my laptop touchpad mouse from going crazy
and stop the mouse pointer from moving all over the screen by itself

It depends on the model. The older IBM Thinkpads and Compaq laptops with the pointing stick had a tendency to develop "pointer drift" from time to time. It used to be pretty common, and I know that they each had a software patch to correct the problem. If you have a touchpad, it could be a calibration problem. It could be a faulty or failing touchpad. It could even be a bug in the driver. At the very least I would update the drivers and check the vendor's knowledge base about this issue.

I find it very unlikely that you have a trojan that is causing your pointer to drift, but I suppose it is possible.

If the movement drifts in a fixed line, e.g. diagonally to top-left-hand corner, then I would tend to agree with kmcferrin's diagnosis.

If the movement is random, e.g. moves erratically around the screen, then I would tend to agree with electronicsfreak.

However, just be aware that there are some 'prank' programs out there (see for an example) which aren't malware as such but are just as irritating if you've been fooled.

Hope this helps...

I had a customer with a Dell laptop that did this. The solution was to turn down the sensitivity of the touchpad. I don't recall the specifics, but there was a touchpad program that came with the laptop for accomplishing this.

Try seeing if you have the synaptics touchpad software enabled. If so, try disabling it. I usually disable this on my user's PC and it puts the sensitivity just about where it should be.
