laptop takes forever to shut down

I have a new laptop with windows xp pro, sp1 and all the updates, but when I shut down it takes around 1-2 minutes.
Any way to speed this up?

If you do not mind doing some detective work. Unplug any external devices, especially USB, and try a shutdown. If that does not help you need to do some investigation:
