My laptop LCD screen garbles after a few minutes of being on... I dont know how to tell if its a hardware issue or a software issue.. It sometimes starts to garble right when I turn it on.. It starts with just a few missing pixxels, then progesses to blocky colors and broken lines, until its unreadable. Its also very unpredictable. Sometimes it will work for an hour. Sometimes it starts messed up. Usually I can reboot and it will stay good for a few minutes.

Try entering the CMOS setup or hit the <pause> key during POST before it boots to an operating system. If the display still breaks up then it's definitely a hardware fault. If your laptop has a 15-pin external video out socket on the back, try connecting an external monitor and see if the problem materialises then.

Good luck.

Toshiba has a recall on display problems, even if it is out of warrantee.
