I work in a Dell shop where most of us have Dell D600,610 and D620 laptops which come with a 60 or 65 watt power supply and the docking stations come with a 90 watt power supply. My question is, I want to make sure that I can use either for my laptops? A 90 watt is still only putting out only enough power as the laptop needs, regardless of the model.

A little knowledge is dangerous.

Your worry would be too much voltage, not wattage. There should be a voltage limiter/gate either at the power brick or laptop so no worries. If the plug fits it will work. My Dell Inspiron 4000 from many years back had interchangeable power supplies on the docking station and laptop, I suppose the extra wattage in your case would be to power the NIC, USB ports etc.

moonguppie, as Tony says, voltage is the issue here. Check the labels on the PSUs - they will quote a DC output voltage, possible 19 vdc maybe? As long as the 60W and the 90W PSUs output the same DC voltage, you'll be ok.
