Probably a really, really easy question.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop and I'm in the UK. Obviously the "power adapter" is a particular model with a particular voltage that is specific to this laptop. But is the actual "power cable" that joins the "power adapter" to the plug socket universal?

What I mean is - can I use any "power cable" (that fits) providing that I am using the correct "power adapter"? I think "yes", I just want to double check.

Thank you.

Most power supplies are universal with their input requirements. Many go from as low as 90VAC up to 250VAC so vary wide ranging. As long as the mains cable fits, you will be good to go!

The transformer for the Sony should have written on it: Input: 100-250 volts 50-60Hz

I've used my UK Sony VAIO over the last couple of years in France, Spain, Andorra, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Canada, Dubai, Singapore and Australia without incident. The only adaptor needed was for fitting the "BS 1363" UK 3 pin 13A plug into the local socket.

There was no problem with Canada's 110V 60Hz system.
