So I am well aware that this is a common issue with a lot of people, and I have gone to places I have never been in the internet to try and find an answer for this problem, but no results.

I have tried about every combination of removing the AC adapter and battery when on or off, etc...(EVERY COMBINATION). I have also tried uninstalling and disabling the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery".

I have tried installing the latest BIOS, and every other driver I could think off, but it still doesn't work.

I have gone so far into this issue that some "unique" things have happened with my laptop.

If I remove the battery, the battery image will say that no battery is detected, but when I put in the battery again(without turning off or anything), it doesn't recognize it right away. So what I do is uninstall and reinstall immediately the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and it recognizes the battery and it says "plugged in, charging"(YEA, CHARGING), but this only stays for about 10-15 secs(the battery is still in 0% no matter what).

Also, sometimes, when I remove the battery, uninstall and reinstall the MACCM, and put the battery back in, in about 10-15 secs my computer turns off before it even recognizes the battery back in.

I know for a fact that the battery and charger is ok. This problem happened right after I went from Vista to Windows 7.

I even tried, I have no clue why or where I read it, to cool down my battery in the fridge for a couple of minutes; of course nothing changed.

Anything else you guys might suggest, or have an answer for I will try. I just wish to fix this problem without needing to go back to Vista.

I'm reading from your post that this is purely a software problem, i.e. the battery does in fact charge ok, but W7 says it's not. Is that right?

When you changed from Vista to W7 did you wipe the disk or do some sort of over-the-top upgrade?

You didn't say, but have you checked that your model of laptop has suitable drivers for W7, and did you download and install them all without problems?

I believe I did a custom install, which install a clean version of WINDOWS 7. My model does have drivers for Win 7 x64, but I don't think any of the ones I downloaded and installed have to do with the battery.

Is there any type of work around?

Suggestion:

Download the Chipset Drivers for the Laptop and install them again...

then which/what laptop are we talking about? more info on the system at hand, could provide better answers then just guestimating where the probs might lie...

You haven't stated which make and model of laptop you've got, not that that would probably help me amswer your problem!

However, you didn't confirm or otherwise whether the battery really is being charged, so we're left to assume that it's still a software problem. E.g. a battery should charge up without the laptop having to actually run, or start up an operating system at all.

On two laptops I've seen recently, the manufacturer's own software monitors battery state. Do you have any manufacturer's software loaded that is doing this, or is it purely W7 that's checking it?

I'm not surprised that the system doesn't immediately recognise you refitting the battery without switching off/rebooting the machine.

Maybe there's some fundamental issue with this particular model in relation to W7 - what does the manufacturer have to say about it, if anything?

Sorry I can't be of any further help...

My HP will often say show battery on 90% Not charging, when plugged in. I ignore it and suddelny it just starts showing the correct info.
Not much help, but looks like it may be a bug.

I would say that if it is just SAYING that it's not charging but it actually IS charging (which you could verify by run time), then try to disregard it as a bug and not get bugged by it.

That's a good point above about seeing if there's a battery monitor app that comes from the manufacturer. Although I don't like all the extras that OEMs load onto their PCs because of the performance and boot up hit that you take.

On an Acer laptop that I had the battery monitor app was always accurate. The charge light and the system tray info was rarely correct.

Hope this helps.
