Hello,

we have like 20 laptop users who are sometimes in office, most of the time out of it. They use their wireless LAN cards when they are here and their Modems when they are out.. How is the best way to create a task that will upgrade the dats for the laptop users, i can't use a specific time, as they are never all here at a certain time, And "on start up" seems an over kill... i just want them to update once a week.

Any ideas-- i am sure there is a simple solution. THanks for any help!

I would do it "On startup" or "On logon". Since these folks are always logging on and off, this seems your best option versus the cube dwellers who never seem to log off, and thus scheduled updates are fine.

I KNOW that when I manually try to update my machine, the update process lets me know that I already have the latest available update, and stops. I think the same would happen with your laptop users.

Would there be a performance hit? Maybe, but only at startup or logon. Then again updates typically occur in the background, most users don't "feel" a thing. I would test this to be sure. But it would be a small price to pay for complete protection.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the post -- Sounds like that is the best option.

I was just looking at these settings in EPO.
I also noticed that for both Startup and Logon updating, you can check off a box so that an update can only occur ONCE daily. I wouls HIGHLY recommend this setting. Definitely a plus!!!
