Hi All, great forum
I have just got hold of a laptop preinstalled with 2000 Pro. I tried installing XP Home but realized this is not possible. Now every time I boot up I have a choice of operating systems but obviously if I choose XP it just askes for the installation disk etc. How can I remove this from boot up? I have deleted the partition already. Also would it be worth dual booting on a 30G hard drive or shall I reformat and just use XP? Is that a simple prosess with OSL2000? Thanks for any replies.

richduc,

You did not elaborate on why installing XP was not possible. You go on to question if you should just use XP.

While dual booting 2000 & XP is possible there are very few functional reasons to do this. Normally, dual booting is desireable for w98 or ME with XP.

30GB provides for just about the base amount of space for both OS's and you would have little space left for anything else.

I would choose one or the other.

Your boot problem solution is within the boot.ini file. I believe that since you have attempted to install XP that you need the XP fix but have included the link for the 2K fix also in case. The primer for Dual Boot is also referenced.

Hope this helps
