Laptop mouse problem conflict

i have a acer aspire 1700 laptop and when i use a ps2 mouse on a game it goes crazy spinng about this doesnt happen with a usb mouse. i think it is conflicting with the touch pad any help would be appriciated. thanks

Does the laptop have a PS/2 port, or are you using a USB-PS/2 adapter with a PS/2 mouse to connect to a USB port?
Is there a problem with just using a USB mouse?

My Gateway Solo 2500 is the same. I found that a plain, two button ps2 mouse will work OK. Aparently, the scroll wheel is the conflict.
