Hi All,

I have RH8 loaded on an IBM r31 laptop. I have been experiencing a problem lately where the machine locks up with the numlock and the caps lock key lights flashing when I choose shutdown. Any ideas why this happens? My workaround is just to shut down the machine with the power button. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are there any errors on the screen when you shut it down?

If you can, try to shutdown from console (not through KDE or X). If you get any errors, please put them here.

I have an idea what it is, but you probably wont like the solution. Your bios could be buggy in the acpi shutdown handling instructions. Please let Tek-Tips members know if their posts were helpful.

Thanks Krale,

I tried to shut the machine down from the command line and it seems to work just fine that way. I did record an error one time, but not since then. I will dig it up and post the error.

In Summary, it does not shutdown from the gui, but does from a command line. So at least I have a workaround. Thanks for your help.

Interestingly enough, after performing several upgrades the problem seems to have disappeared.
