Hi all,
I have a Compaq laptop that's just barely a year old... It appears the backlight to the LCD screen just died! The laptop wasn't subjected to any shock, just sat on the desk and one day didn't display an image. You can get video if you plug a monitor into it. You can also see a slight image if you shine a very bright light (such as the sun) on the front of the display. It would seem to me that the video signal is being transmitted to the laptop, but the light is not showing it.
Could it be just a burned out back light?
If so, would it be safe for me to open it up and try to replace it? I'm going the cheapest route here... I'm familiar w/desktop hardware (A+ certified, yadda yadda), but haven't done to much w/laptops. Also, I don't want to get shocked or burned...
What do you guys think?
