Hi. I have a laptop which will not boot Windows 7. When trying safe mode it freezes at the point where CLASSPNP.SYS comes up. I can't even boot it from the original setup disk (Win 7 Enterprise). When I try using a recovery disk I get an error message 0xc00000e9. I can read the disk when I take it out and mount it as an external drive on another machine. Any ideas?

Thanks for reading this.

0xc00000e9 – How To Fix It!

There is a chance that another hardware component is causing a flaky power issue with the 'bootable' devices (USB, HDD, ODD, etc.)...

if you have USB devices attached remove them until the issue is resolved...

test the HDD with the manufacturers diagnostic tools, these can be found on the respective websites, e.g. SeaTools if the drive is a Seagate/Samsung/Maxtor, Western Digital / Hitachi use Data Life Guard (see the WD website)...

boot with with the W7 DVD and run the memory diagnostic from there, just to make sure that the RAM is in working condition...

you could also test the complete hardware by running a Live Linux DVD (e.g. Parted Magic or Knoppix or Ubuntu (I prefer Parted Magic)), once booted and it is working you can attach an external drive to transfer personal data from your internal drive...

also check your BIOS BOOT settings and make sure that DVD is first and the HDD is second in the boot order...
