I just got a new laptop. I am planning to use it as a desktop replacement and the salesman told me that I should take the battery out since it will be charging most of the time. The instructions said I should unplug the computer once a month and drain the battery. Which would be better?

If the battery is out and you have a power failure you risk corrupting stuff.
Batteries have this problem where they get locked into the charge they will keep. Draining them and recharging eliminates the lock point.
I would go by the manual. Ed Fair
