lap top dvd burner not working

The DVD on my lap top will not burn to DVD (either -R or +R). I have been able to do so for the last 18 months until the last burn on 2nd July.
Could it be a hardware fault or something else. It can read DVDs and burn and read CDs.
I have tried using the software which came with it (Sonic recor now) and I have downloaded Nero trial (although there were 2-3 instances when installing where it was unable to install certain items - which leads me to think that it is not a hardware problem)
Can anyone advise before I take it to be checked? I need my lap top most days.

Hey,

Check that you have all the newest updates for windows, and re-install sonic.

Make sure that you check their website for the newest updates to the sonic program.

Its probably a conflict with a windows update.
