I am looking for cost effective options for a Language Line. Does anyone know a good service that doesn't charge an arm and a leg? We would do about 1000 minutes a month. What I am paying right now I believe is too expensive, so I would like to hear from others on competitive pricing.

Thanks

I'm wondering if you are going to be forced to ask the people at who they compete with. I think they have the market cornered. Maybe in the name of "why should I select you and not your competition"..."by the way, who is your competition"

Since AT&T started that company (if I remember) you might be able to find someone at another long line carrier who knows of similar services. For example, who dies Sprint and Verizon suggest?

We use Optimal Phone Interpreters (OPI) out of Winter Park, FL. I'm sorry I don't have a phone number or website, this is just off the sheet they gave me to order the handset cord splitters.

The way this system works is that you call the interpreter and they conference out to the other party. There are 2 handsets in use - one for the client and one for the person listening in and taking notes. The charge is so much a minute - I don't know those numbers. We are a healthcare provider so they assured this place was bonded for confidentiality, etc... This way was far more flexible and less expensive than the local service we were using that billed a 1 hour minimum, so even if a call was 10-min we still got billed for an hour for a person to drive here and back, etc.

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

The field is narrowing. in the industry, we are calling Languageline "The Borg" as they are assimilating all the larger competition, soon to be followed by monopolistic pricing and service ala "Ma Bell." I'm from a company that was already suggested to you. In addition to ourselves, you will get a decent price and service from Cyracom, Pacific Interpreters, or Certified Languages. They all do a good job in the medical environment and test their interpreters. If I were a hospital and didn't use our company, I would first go with Cyracom (medical focus, a little more expensive), followed by Certified Languages International (I used to be their CEO). There are many mom and pop companies out there to be aware of, I would not suggest any outside of those mentioned for your facility. Good luck!
