Has anyone had an issue like this: I have a customer running an IP Office R2.0 (16) and just yesterday they started having a problem where on sporadic incoming calls to a DID, the call display changes to chinese. when the next call comes in, the caller id is back to english. this is a big issue because the secretaries who are covering for exec's don't know who the call is comming in for. It happened as many as 20 times yesterday and has occured again today. The phone setting for language is set to defualt. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Wacky! What kind of phones (DCP or IP hardphones)? Are you using softconsole or phonemanager to assist, and if so does it go to chinese too or just the phone display? If you're not using either I would try installing phonemanager (lite being free and all) at least as a temp bandaid. Finally, is the DID routing through any VMPro call flows at all or is pointed directly at the destination phone in the incoming call routes?

Peter

They are using 4412D+ Telephones. They have all POTS lines coming into the system (not a PRI). All calls are routed through the VMPRO first and then the caller transfers out to the extension. They do not have phone manager set-up, but I may try to load that for a few extensions to see if that comes through chinese or if that comes through correctly.

You might also try inserting a language selection token just before the transfer, and specifically force it to us english (or whatever you're using).

Peter

really? I am chinese, and i have used IPOffice about 1 year, and never seen any Chinese in my phones including 4602,6408... I also used VMPro to transfer the call. Though i set both IPO and VMPro to China, only English words are displayed in the screen of phone. how you know that words are chinese?

wyi something is happening on telecomboy's system that is not supposed to be - we're running through a basic troubleshooting pattern, searching for the source of the trouble.

You raised a good point though - telecomboy are you sure the characters are chinese, or are they just gibberish?

Peter

sorry, I have been out of the office. wyi, The customer is the one who told me it was chinese coming across the display. When I went on-site, it appeared to be just jibberish. Morrack, I had to downgrade the system and VM Pro to original version 1.3 and then re-upgrade them to 2.1 per Avaya. They seemed to think there was corruption when it was first upgraded. that was done last wednesday and so far so good it hasn't happened since. Thanks for you responses.
